– AI that is at least as competent as humans across a wide range of cognitive challenges.
– AI that is transformative enough to reshape economies, institutions, and daily life.

Until the field agrees on more concrete criteria, discussions about AGI will continue to mix scientific questions, philosophical intuitions, marketing language, and speculative futurism.

For now, the most honest position is to recognize both sides of the paradox: AGI is the central goal driving much of today’s AI ambition-and yet, if you ask ten experts to define it, you’ll still get ten different answers.
